Celiac Disease Foundation’s Annual Education Conference & Food Faire

by Robb

If you live in Southern California and want to learn more about the gluten-free movement, consider attending the Celiac Disease Foundation’s Annual Education Conference & Food Faire this Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Pasadena Convention Center.

As with many celiac disease-related causes, PureFit is proud to promote and get involved with events such as CDF’s Education Conference & Food Faire. This year, Conference & Food Faire attendees will learn about PureFit’s award-winning wheat-free and gluten-free nutrition bars by reaching into their official event Goodie Bag and pulling out one of the 500 or so nutrition bars we donated to the Celiac Disease Foundation for events such as this one.

If you live with celiac disease or are trying to make the switch to the gluten-free lifestyle this would be a great one-day event to attend. This year’s slate of speakers include two of the best-known medical doctors focusing on the diagnoses and treatment of CD:

  • Dr. Stefano Guandalini is a pediatric gastroenterologist and the director of the Chicago Celiac Disease Center.
  • Dr. Joseph Murray is an adult gastroenterologist and professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic.

The program also includes:

  • Continental gluten-free breakfast and lunch
  • The aforementioned gluten-free goodie bag
  • Gluten-free pizza and beer tasting
  • Extensive vendor displays with gluten-free food samples and sales

Will you please notify me when almond bars are back in stock? I’d like to order some.

I am doing some research on celiac disease and gluten free diets. I find a potential problem will be athletes, as they NEED carbs. Although there are many studies done that tout the benefits of a gluten free diet, are there many athletes that follow it? I know Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves tries to follow a strict gluten free diet. But they are either rare or keep it private. My question would be who and why? If they make it public, more student athletes are likely to look into it spreading awareness.

Daniel, I understand Desiree Ficker, Ironman Champion, follows a wheat and gluten free diet. It’s quite possible for an athlete to follow a wheat and gluten free diet by using products like PureFit, and adhering to the diet with the vast amount of celiac friendly foods that are now on the market.

I also believe New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees does not eat wheat or gluten. As you may be know, he nearly missed passing for the single season NFL passing record for the 2008-2009 season.
