PureFit Bars NOT Affected by Peanut Butter Recall
Posted by Robb Comments (7)
For anyone wondering, unlike some other companies nutrition bars, PureFit Nutrition Bars—which come in four 100% all-natural and wheat- and gluten-free flavors (including Peanut Butter Crunch)—are NOT affected by the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) recent warning about peanut butter.
Background: Recently, the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA)—a peanut processing company and maker of peanut butter for bulk distribution to institutions, food service industries, and private label food companies—in coordination with the FDA, announced a recall of peanut butter produced in its Blakely, Georgia, processing facility because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
While Clif Bar & Company today announced the recall of some of its bars (including: Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch, Clif Bar Crunchy Peanut Butter, Clif Bar Peanut Toffee Buzz, ZBaR Peanut Butter, Clif Builders Peanut Butter, Luna Nutz over Chocolate, Luna Peanut Butter Cookie, and all Clif Mojo Bars), PureFit Nutrition Bars are safe!
PureFit Bars are Safe: PureFit, working cooperatively with the California Department of Public Health and the FDA, has determined that NONE of our products contain any of the suspect lots of recalled peanut butter. In fact, we micro-test every batch of bars before they are released from our manufacturing facility, and in seven-plus years of manufacturing, we have never had a test come back positive for ANYTHING (anything that is besides being the best darn wheat-, gluten-, and dairy-free nutrition bar on the market).
PureFit remains fully committed to the continued testing and monitoring of the quality and freshness of our award-winning nutrition bars. If you have any questions about PureFit Nutrition Bars and the current FDA warning about Salmonella, please contact our office or leave a comment here on the blog. For more information on the salmonella bacteria and the peanut butter recall, please visit the FDA’s Website at http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/salmonellatyph.html#news.

From the above: “…has determined that NONE of our products contain any of the suspect lots of recalled peanut butter.” Does this mean that you DO get your peanut butter from this plant?
I got my bars at the Portland (OR) Marathon last October; I still have a couple. I liked them then and I liked them when I got them in Boston last April. However, I’d be even more impressed if you used organic products.
Just a suggestion.

Karina-
Thank you for your feedback and allowing me to clarify my post. Correct, we DO NOT get our peanut butter from the Peanut Corporation of America. As for organic, that is an entirely different conversation.
If PureFit were to do an organic line of nutrition bars, they would be marketed and distributed differently than our current line of bars. I agree with what I believe you are saying–organic ingredients are the highest quality available. The problem is, in my opinion, the average American is not in the position to pay an additional 30% for organic ingredients and products (and not just because we are experiencing a recession).
Another major issue is shelf-life. Typically, organic products don’t offer the same shelf-life as all-natural products, like PureFit does. Grocery and health food stores are looking for the longest shelf-life possible. My guess is, that within 3 years, the food science that we rely on to keep our bars fresh and stable, will be advanced and offer us solutions to make an organic line of high protein bars with a 9-12 month shelf-life. I am hoping that the US economy will recover by then, and the demand for organic products will increase.
In the meantime, we’re happy that we’ve succeeded at making an all-natural bar that really gives consumers what they are looking for–quality, taste and performance.
Thanks again,

You stated that your products are not affected by the lots numbers currently under recall by Peanut Corporation. However, due to the recent increase in scope – recalling everything – all lots for the past 2 years – Have you used PCA product in the past 2 years?

Gail,
Great question (“Have you used PCA product in the past 2 years?”).
PureFit has not used PCA peanut butter in the last two (2) years, nor have we ever used PCA product in the manufacturing of any of our award-winning nutrition bars.
Thanks for your question,

Robb, I came straight here, to your web site, when I heard about the Clif Bar recall. Clif is one of my favorite companies and makes my second favorite nutrition bars.
I’m thrilled to see that PureFit is unaffected by the problems with PCA, but I should have know.
Way to go!

I tried my first Pure Fit bar today and had the peanut butter…thought it was great and I’m still alive and feel great!
